EUSTRA (Евразийский Стратегический Альянс, Eurasian Strategic Alliance) is a fictional supernational organization created by Alexander Sylazhov which features in the novel SOVREV: The Faith Endeavor. Below there are brief descriptions of the bloc’s history, economy, military and other characteristic aspects of its culture.

CONTENTS [hide]

History

EUSTRA rose as a response to European and Asian states shifting away from the West and the European Union and reapproaching Russia for economic and political stability. When the European Union collapsed fully and caved in fully to fascism to form LEUNA, EUSTRA was quickly established as a counterbalance.

Flag

The flag of EUSTRA is based on the Slavic tricolor but with a black bar instead of white, with a Russian double-headed eagle bearing the shield of EUSTRA at the center, which displays a red star. The flag is similar to the flag used by the breakway Ukrainian Donetsk People's Republic, as EUSTRA took its inspiration from the rebels fighting for pro-Russian ideals there against Ukrainian and LEUNA fascism.

Member states

EUSTRA is comprised of most countries that used to belong to the Soviet Union, the Warsaw Pact, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Eurasian Economic Union. It has many disputed zones in Central Europe and Eastern Europe, where it supports left-wing and communist partisans and sociopolitical movements against the right-wing and fascist LEUNA sympathizers.

The following is a list of all EUSTRA full member states:

-Russia
-Belarus
-Kazakhstan
-Turkmenistan
-Tajikistan
-Kyrgyzstan
-Uzbekistan
-Georgia
-Armenia
-Azerbaijan
-Pridnestrovie (Moldova)
-Mongolia

-Heavily disputed territories but with EUSTRA majority:

-Ukraine (most of Eastern Ukraine under EUSTRA control)
-Former Yugoslavia (major support in Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia)
-Bulgaria
-Romania
-Albania
-Poland
-Czech Republic
-Moldova (most of territory, as well as Pridnestrovie, under EUSTRA control)

Government and politics

EUSTRA is a supranational bloc where all member states enjoy vast degrees of self-autonomy and sovereignty, yet are highly tied to Russia, similar to the Soviet Union. The alliance is also military in nature, and just like the Warsaw Pact during the Cold War, EUSTRA responds to an attack on an individual member state considering it an attack on the entire bloc.

Economy and law and order

The economy of EUSTRA, like those of many other Western nations, suffered from the effects of the worldwide recession, with unemployment soaring, wages decreasing and radical Islamic terrorist attacks being a major concern. When LEUNA was formed it introduced policies aimed at improving the economy: these included stronger state intervention in the economy to minimize money laundering, corruption and speculation, as well as introducing labor reforms and a more centralized taxation system, which people associated to the erstwhile Soviet Union. EUSTRA however remains a capitalist mixed economy. Although it's rising, the economy of EUSTRA relies heavily on Asian, Middle Eastern and Latin American nations due to sanctions by Western owers such as the United States, the British Commonwealth and LEUNA.

EUSTRA has supranational law enforcement agencies dedicated to fighting drug and gun smuggling, human trafficking, illegal immigration, foreign espionage and destabilization attempts. EUSTRA law enforcement takes care mostly of transnational issues, such as suppressing pro-LEUNA fascist nationalistic sociopolitical movements.

Languages

Russian is the most widespread language inside EUSTRA territories and the de jure official language of the bloc. The official languages of EUSTRA comprise all those spoken in its member states.

Military

EUSTRA has an enormous military budget that is only behind that of the United States, making it second at a worldwide level. The combined militaries of all member states, in a Warsaw Pact-like alliance, are forced to respond in a highly centralized manner to exterior threats. Russia holds the most powerful national military in the entire bloc and produces the most military hardware.

Culture

An emphasis is placed throughout all of EUSTRA on Eurasian culture from a Slavophilic and Russophilic perspective. EUSTRA exacerbates many Soviet and Russian achievements of the past, especially from the Cold War, and celebrates Slavic nations in general, praising painting, film and literature as some of its highest achivements. Militarism and patriotism play a huge role, as do xenophobia and mistrust of foreign superpowers such as the United States and LEUNA, due to widespread interventionism and espionage.

Public holidays and festivities

EUSTRA celebrates Victory Day on the 9th of May, celebrating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany during WWII. EUSTRA also celebrates the integration of Eurasian culture on Eurasian Unity Day, which is also Russia Day, on the 4th of november.

Religion

Christianity and Islam have the greatest number of adherents among EUSTRA's religious citizens. Atheism, a staple of the USSR, also has many adherents. Among Christians, the Russian Orthodox faith is predominant.
