An introductory speech delivered to students at the University of Granada during the opening of an English-language course. Using Pink Floyd's iconic song Time as a starting point, the presentation explores the passage of time, personal growth, education, ambition, mortality, and the importance of pursuing one's goals with purpose and determination.
Blending musical analysis with personal reflection, the speech draws upon the themes of The Dark Side of the Moon to examine how the years shape our lives, how opportunities can be lost or seized, and why education and self-improvement remain lifelong endeavors. It also reflects on my own experiences as a student, writer, and immigrant, offering encouragement to young people standing at the beginning of their academic and personal journeys.
More than a discussion of a classic rock song, the presentation is ultimately a meditation on the value of time itself and a call to make meaningful use of the opportunities life provides. The complete speech can be read here.
